Winchester, Ontario - December 05, 2000: The Township of North Dundas announced it has entered into an alliance with CDS/PROMETHEUS (CDSP) and Storm Internet Services (Storm), both subsidiaries of International Datacasting Corporation, and Regional Cablesystems of St Johns, Canada's largest provider of cable television services to non-metropolitan areas. This alliance is to provide a broadband high-speed Internet infrastructure for the township. The infrastructure will be a multi-mode model that will feature wireless, optical, fiber and cable connectivity. The network will be supplied by a 90Mb/sec aggregate backbone provided by Storm, wireless and optical connectivity provided by CDSP. The network will use Regional's existing fiber optic and coaxial infrastructure in and around Winchester and Chesterville..
Claude Cousineau, Mayor of The Township of North Dundas, stated " After quietly doing careful research we found the alliance approach to be the best model for three reasons:1) The multi- mode model reaches more people in the township, 2) In many cases, our constituents will have a choice of optical, wireless, fiber or cable, 3) It did not cost our taxpayers a cent. In my view we have gone with a balanced approach, one that is scalable and will serve the needs of the people for many years to come. This solution solves our "bandwidth problem" very effectively.
It is our intention to launch this service at the Dec 11th Inaugural Council meeting. I would like invite anyone who wishes to attend to come and meet with CDSP, Storm and Regional at a live demo right at the Hydro One building starting at 7.00 PM. This event will introduce North Dundas as the new Eastern Ontario Multi-Mode Internet Hub".
Barry Williams President & CEO of CDSP and Storm said, " We are very pleased with this alliance. We already have a wireless network that is well over 4000 sq. kilometers and this is one more step in our targeted expansion to 25,000 sq. k. By using a multi-mode approach we are able to bring more service to more people more quickly. We have the ISP, the wireless and optical capabilities and Regional has the fiber and cable infrastructure. This is truly a "best of breed" solution for North Dundas. Mayor Cousineau and his team were great to work with. They went about this whole project in a quiet professional manner. Their objectives to us were very clear: make it affordable, high-speed and scalable."
Dimitri Stathis, General Manager of Regional Cablesystems said "This is the first phase of a project to provide access to broadband Internet in all of SD&G (Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry) as well Prescott and Russell counties. This project will enable broadband access in over 4000 households in Winchester, Chesterville as well as Morrisburg, Iroquois and Cardinal. It also reconfirms our strategy of giving local ISPs equal access to our infrastructure in order to provide Internet services."
